Is Chocolate Better Than Kissing ?

May 2nd, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

“When it comes to tongues, melting chocolate is better than a passionate kiss, scientists have found.”
For all the chocolate addicts, this news report I found from BBC News makes interesting reading. It explains a lot!
Evidently, couples in their 20s had their heart rates and brains monitored whilst they first melted chocolate in their mouths and then kissed. Much to everyones surprise, chocolate caused a more intense and longer lasting “buzz” than kissing, plus volunteers’ heart rates doubled.
The research was carried out by Dr Lewis who said: “There is no doubt that chocolate beats kissing hands down when it comes to providing a long-lasting body and brain buzz. A buzz that, in many cases, lasted four times as long as the most passionate kiss.”

They found that chocolate increased heart rates from a resting rate of about 60 beats per minute to 140.

Chocolate (especially dark chocolate) is known to contain phenylethylamine which can raise levels of endorphins, the pleasure giving substances, in the brain and also caffeine which also has a stimulatory effect on the brain. However, the intensity and length of time the “buzz” lasted surprised and intrigued the researchers.

The article finishes off with
“This would explain why chocolate can give people a buzz, and why people can become addicted to it.”

Make A chocolate Gift Basket - Ideal Gift For Valentines Day

February 9th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

Most people love chocolate. Making a chocolate gift basket could be  the best way to give an individual present, specially designed for them  -  ideal for Valentines Day, a birthday or just to say “thank you” or “we are thinking of you”

Follow these  easy steps to make your own basket;

Find a basket that will be large and deep enough to hold filler plus the chocolates. Choose a colour scheme which will fit the occasion. Red and white would be an obvious choice for Valentines Day, but shades of rich brown accented with another colour could be another possibility. The filler can be made with shredded coloured paper or tissue paper to co-ordinate.
Other containers could be used instead of a traditional basket - a wooden box, a papier mache box or small tin bucket could be painted or given special decorating effects, such as stencilling or using rubber stamps.
Instead of using filler, you could line the basket with fabric. Quilted, padded lining will give a very luxurious look.

Now you have your gift basket ready, take some time to choose yummy chocolate goodies that the recipient will like. It is lovely to be given gourmet chocolate that you wouldn’t normally buy for yourself, but you could also include a jar of chocolate sauce, a tin of luxury hot chocolate or some chocolate cookies.

When you are happy with your selection, carefully place in the basket, along with the filler. Cover with cellophane and perhaps add a big bow.

And there you have it - a beautifully prepared chocolate gift basket, sure to bring pleasure and delight.
